SUNRISE SURPRISE

6 am, the pond
asleep, the din encircling
it, Rt. 2 which never
sleeps, great incessant
buzz reminding anew
that the railroad indeed
rides us, and ditto plus for
cars, while in the center,
Walden lies like a smokey

glass, indifferent to all
transitory things, especially
those transiting at 65
mph, or better yet, this
is like the elephant's eye
I once saw, so placid and
unperturbed, most
powerful peaceful
presence, just
busy being.
