"WHAT WOULD MLK SAY TO
US THIS YEAR ON MLK DAY?"

I think he would say:

What happened to my dream?
Where did it go?
Did it melt away
like last December's snow?

We cried, "Desegregate!"
but, oh, what a sight,
today the schools are either
black or the whitest of white.

We thought one day we'd stand
as brother to brother,
but 40 years now have passed.
Do we really know each other?

Remember I spoke of the poor,
and how it wasn't fair,
but today it's so much worse.
The rich few don't like to share.

I know you liked my speech,
that refrain about a dream,
but what good are words
that are washed downstream?

What happened to my dream?
Where did it go?
Did it melt away
like last December's snow?
